Lots of you have asked about who we are and what our background is. Rob grew up Atlanta and went to public schools, graduating from North Fulton High School in the early 70's. He attended Davidson College in North Carolina where he majored in history (spending his junior year as an exchange student in Germany). After college, he and Cyndy married and moved to the west coast where Rob attended Stanford University and worked towards a doctorate in History and Humanities.

Cyndy was born in Alabama, but grew up mostly in Atlanta, graduating from Sandy Springs High School. She received her undergraduate degree in English from Queens College in Charlotte and then a masters degree in English from the University of Virginia.

Although we both went to public schools, we began to wrestle with decisions about our own children's education almost as soon as the oldest was born. We were attracted to homeschooling by the example set for us by a number of homeschooling families whose paths we crossed. Much prayer, research, and asking questions followed, but we became more and more convinced that homeschooling was what God wanted for our family.

We've been homeschooling now since 1985. Our eighth child was born in July of 1996, and our ninth child was adopted in January of 1997 (see Corrie's Story for more details). Our 10th was born in April of 1998, and our eleventh child was adopted in October of 1999 (see Sarah's Story for more details). Our oldest was  married in June of 2000, so we'll most likely have grandchildren to enjoy before we're through educating our youngest. It's a blessing we are looking forward to.
