Ancient Egypt has over 2,000 years of recorded history. Its history is closely linked with the history of Ancient Israel, and it is mentioned frequently in the historical books of the Old Testament.
Our understanding of the Exodus is much richer for having studied the history and culture of Ancient Egypt.
A word of caution about the chronology in Egypt is in order, though. Historians really don't know the dates of the earliest dynasties with any certainty. There continues to be a wide diversity of views about when the Exodus happened and which Pharaoh was ruling. The name of Pharaoh is not given in the Old Testament. We trust the accuracy of the biblical narrative, and read all other scholars with some skepticism - though there is something to be learned from almost all of them.
